Every one deals with stress!
Economic stress, inadequate health and child care, affordable housing and limited access to
community resources are all problems that families face.
Sometimes, in the face of these challenges, the task of parenting can seem overwhelming.
Youth & Family Counseling Services Friends of Families
Program offers the service of a home visitation volunteer. If the service is appropriate for
a new family and they wish it, a Home Visitor goes to their home once a week, at first, in
order to get the family off to a good start. The family determines what is needed from
the program. The home visitor can supply information such as: nutrition, immunization
schedules, infant safety, child development, etc.
The Program's goal is to enhance family functioning by:
- Building nurturing, trusting relationships
- Promoting positive parent-child interaction
- Providing support for over-burdened families
- Building family support Systems
- Encouraging self reliance
The Friends of Families Program:
- Teaches problem solving skills
- Builds parents' existing knowledge and skills in preparing for and relating to their baby
- Provides information about appropriate community resources
